— The California Palace of the Legion of Honor is San Francisco's most seductively situated museum, located on striking oceanfront landscape at Land's End in Lincoln Park in the northwest corner of the city. Beautifully refurbished and expanded in 1995, it features masterworks from the 14th-20th centuries, including works by El Greco, Rembrandt, Monet, Matisse, and Picasso. The museum also has a fine collection of ancient art from the Mediterranean and Near East, and its works on paper collection is one of the largest in the U.S. Drop in on Saturday or Sunday at 4 p.m. for organ recitals. From July 31-Nov. 28, the museum will present paintings, drawings and photographs by Austrian artist Gottfried Helnwein. The exhibit, titled "The Child: Works by Gottfried Helnwein," looks at children as innocent, yet exploited.
