Frighteningly realstic and disturbingly astonishing. Helnwein may be the greatest inspiration in my short life. I hope that one day my work and I shall be recognised, yet I do not expect equal greatness to Helnwein! Hopefully, the inspiration I gain from this site alone will help me get those beautiful A's I am working for.
The way he has encorporated cartoons into vague scenes and has captured human emotion more clearly than I can even express creates a mood not a lot of people can understand. It's truely amazing how perfect his artwork seems, so acurate. Even the cartoons seem alive!
Wounded children is a terribly degrading and depressing subject, and hasn't he captured it well. When you look at a piece of art like that, it is hard to imagine that being on anyones wall, and so you wonder what is the point to all this 'ugly' art? Well, I don't know for sure, but I understand that no art is 'ugly'; it is simply artwork emphasising the things many people turn a blind eye to, because they fear it. No one likes to see innocence destroyed, but we must appreciate the fact that it is happening everywhere today. Helnwein has shocked me, yet helped me realise that even ugly things are beautiful.
All we need is a good bucketful of ice-cold water to awaken us to the truth. Visual phenomenons; this is my water.

In fact Gottfried Helnwein made his name by spectacular performances, among them are self mutilations or simulacra of violence inflicted on himself. The violence is often concentrated on the eyes. The artist takes to bandaging the head which deprives the individual of all visual relations with the outside world. An obvious paradox on the part of an artist's whole life and work is closely linked with sight, to apply himself to representing, in various forms, impediments and problems of sight. Undoubtedly the scope of his projects is not limited to the sole artistic domain. His art also takes on an obvious historic dimension. Like a good number of artists of his generation, those born after the war, be they writers, painters, film makers or photographers, Gottfried Helnwein feels intense guilt at belonging to a part of Europe with such an unbearable past. ...

Die Helnwein-Kinder beeindrucken mich sehr. Ich kann gar nicht beschreiben, wie diese Bilder auf mich wirken. Assoziiere erschreckend, Verletzlichkeit, Stärke, Unnahbarkeit, Reinheit ... ...

ich mein .. extreme Sachen sind schon dabei .. die Kinder sind schon hart .. aber immer noch sehr ansprechend und ansehnlich...

Gottfried Helnwein mettait des photos géantes de foetus avortés ou morts dans les églises, c'était sublime, tout à fait moi ce genre d'entreprise. Tu me dis que j'ai eu tort de coucher avec cette fille, même si les choses étaient claires et que "nous sommes adultes quand même". J'en doute fort parfois, chez les autres comme chez moi. Je vois tes mains, aujourd'hui elles ne font plus rien, je les trouve classiques. Ton visage. Tes yeux. Je me dis : pourquoi je m'étais emportée pour lui dans mon coeur, nous étions faits pour être amis. C'est dommage d'avoir gâché cette amitié par un amour trop beau pour être vrai. Les belles gens condamnent toujours. ...

Ce que j'y disais (non mais!), c'est qu'il aurait peut-être été moins choquant (au sens de moins violent) de ne mettre qu'une ou deux photos et d'y adjoindre le lien qui permet l'accès au site de Halnwein: libre à chacun de poursuivre ou pas.

Bien qu'ayant été très secouée émotionnellement je suis allée sur le site de Halnwein parce que ces oeuvres m'interpellent, me bouleversent profondément, même si ça fait mal; un peu comme si je pouvais enfin voir une partie ( on ne s'inquiète pas là! : une toute petite partie, mais qui qd elle est active prend vraiment une place phénoménale) de ce qu'il y a qque part au fond de moi, représenté , exprimé d'une manière très forte par qqu'un d'autre.

J'ai déja ressenti un peu çà en regardant des oeuvres de Dix sur la 1ère guerre mondiale, certains textes d'Artaud aussi...

Je disais aussi ds mon premier message que les associations de lutte contre la maltraitance et les abus sexuels devraient utiliser ces images. Ce serait à mon avis un bon moyen de lutter contre la cécité mentale face à ces atrocités. ...
